Taiwan operates as a self-governing democracy, while China views it as a breakaway province and has increased military and diplomatic pressure. Taiwan actively seeks to strengthen international ties and global standing, including through educational and cultural exchanges. This broader context influences Taiwan's foreign policy and its efforts to maintain autonomy.
