Taiwan· TaipeiTaiwan to Receive US-Made Stinger Missiles
Taiwan is scheduled to receive 500 U.S.-made Stinger surface-to-air missiles and 178 launchers by year-end, part of a larger procurement program to bolster air defenses.
Background
Taiwan's self-governing status is a long-standing point of tension with China, which views the island as a breakaway province. The United States maintains unofficial relations with Taiwan and provides defensive military assistance, a policy that frequently draws strong objections from Beijing.
